BIPOC Mindfulness Meditation Group

Dear Friends on the Path,

BIPOC Group Practice is online and takes place on the first and third Sunday of every month from 6:00 pm PT to 8:00 pm PT. We have members from all over the United States  and welcome members from across the Globe.

You are welcome to join the MCPS – BIPOC  practice sessions If you identify as Black, Indigenous, or Person of Color (BIPOC; includes but is not limited to Latinx, Asian, Pacific Islander, Native Hawaiian) or Global Majority,*.  Read more about the meaning of these terms by clicking on this sentence.

We meet on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month. We practice over Zoom. Our practice is peer-led and guided by our commitment to the 5 Mindfulness Trainings, the Gatha for Healing (ARISE) and the ARISE Contemplations of the 5 mindfulness Trainings. We diligently practice to co-create a space for BIPOC practitioners to find refuge, where their varied intersecting identities feel welcome too.

For zoom links and periodic reminders, we encourage you to join our mailing list, which is maintained by the BIPOC practice committee. Please contact Gitika (gitika.talwar@gmail.com) or Martine (martinelakay@comcast.net) for more information about our practice or to be added to our mailing list.

Typical form of BIPOC Group Practice:

  • Warm welcome into the Space with prompts to allow you to transition into the practice for the evening.
  • Honor ancestors and wisdom teachers
  • Facilitator for the evening offers an orientation to Practice for the evening. We typically practice with a mix of loving speech, silence and guided meditation where we are invited to Stop and Look Deeply into the present moment.
  • Break for Mindful movement (sometimes guided) and the opportunity to listen to needs of our  body (water, snack, restroom, etc)
  • 45-50 minutes of Dharma sharing (Dharma sharing guidelines)
  • Dedication of Merit (what is this?)
  • Announcements : members of the Sangha typically share information about practice opportunities

Please see our Online Practice Guidelines for support in practicing skillfully online.
