Sacred Rest – a 4-week Series

Dear Sangha, Please join Cecilia & Vera for a 4-week Series where we will deepen our practice of Sacred Rest. Throughout the series, we will touch on our relationships with rest-  physical, mental, emotional, and social.  We will use simple practices to unwrap what rest means to each of us on our journey to heal, nourish, and renew ourselves.

As Thai beautifully states “Practice in a way that does not tire you out, but gives your body, emotions, and consciousness a chance to rest. Our body and mind have the capacity to heal themselves if we allow them to rest. ” ― The Heart of the Buddha’s Teaching: Transforming Suffering into Peace, Joy, and Liberation

Drawing inspiration from Saundra Dalton-Smith’s book “Sacred Rest” we are reminded that when we are resting because our bodies are weak, we are not wasting the day doing nothing. We are doing exactly what we need to do. It is through rest that we replenish our strength and allow our bodies to heal and rejuvenate. We are recovering.

Together, let us embrace the sacredness of rest and embark on our journey toward greater peace, joy, and liberation.

(basic practices include: singing, movement, sitting, chanting, and dharma sharing)

We are a peer-led Sangha.  For our Monday night practice, this means members of our community support each other by volunteering to facilitate or lead an evening practice (called Facilitator) or to help set up our Zendo (called Setup host).  If you have any questions or would like to volunteer for Facilitator or Setup host, please contact info@mindfulnesspugetsound.org.

Covid Protocols at Dharma Gate for Monday Night Practice

As a reminder, we require the following protocols to be followed at Dharma Gate:

  • All in person practitioners must be vaccinated and boosted (one booster shot is fine.)
  • All guests must sign in on the clipboard whenever visiting Dharma Gate.
  • If you are feeling unwell, please stay home and join us for our hybrid online practices.
  • Masking is still required, with a few exceptions. Masks are provided at the door, if needed

While masks on Mondays are still required, our team has taken the step to allow our facilitators and those sharing during dharma sharing to remove their masks if they like. We also recognize those who would like to join in person, but find it too difficult to practice with or wear a mask, therefore we will now reserve several seats near the back of the Zendo for them.
