A Six-Week Introduction to Mindfulness and Meditation

Whether you’re new to meditation or looking to deepen an existing practice, this six-week series offers a welcoming introduction to the foundations of mindfulness meditation. Through guided instruction, sitting and walking meditation, embodied awareness, Dharma reflections, and Dharma sharing, participants will develop a stronger foundation and greater structure for their meditation practice while learning to bring mindfulness into everyday life. This series is offered in the Plum Village tradition of Zen Master Thích Nhất Hạnh and welcomes people of all backgrounds and levels of experience.
You’ll learn how to:
Discovering postures that support both alertness and ease
Using the breath as a reliable anchor for attention
Deepening embodied (somatic) awareness
Meeting thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations with curiosity
Practicing sitting and walking meditation
Opening the heart through loving-kindness (mettā) meditation
Bringing mindfulness into everyday life
This class is open to all experience levels. Meditation can be practiced in many ways, and participants are encouraged to find positions that support their bodies and well-being. You’re welcome to sit on a chair or cushion, stand, lie down, or move gently as needed. Options are offered throughout the series to support diverse bodies, abilities, and learning styles.

When: Tuesdays, September 15–October 20, 2026 • 6:30–8:30 p.m.
Where: Dharma Gate Meditation Center

Format: In person (preferred) with Zoom available.
Cost: Sliding scale $0–$60. No one turned away for lack of funds. All proceeds support MCPS.
