Days of Mindfulness

We will hold Days of Mindfulness (DOM) on the 3rd weekend of each month in 2025 and will alternate Sundays and Saturdays each month throughout the year.  The program is held at Dharma Gate from 8:45 am to 4 pm.  You can join in-person at 1910 24th Ave S, Seattle 98144 or connect by Zoom

Themes for each of the last 7 Days of Mindfulness in 2025 are:

Saturday, May 17 (Notice date change), Spiritual Friends with a plan for developing a “Dharma Buddies” program for the summer months of 2025. 

Saturday, June 21, Practices to Support Living Free of Fear: teachings and practices offered during the basic 6 week Meditation course that ends June 10 will be the focus with participants able to deeply experience them during this Day of Mindfulness.

Sunday, July 20, Cultivating a Lived Experience of Interbeing: with a focus on the teachings from the Diamond Sutra.  These include giving up the notions of “self”, “human being”, “living beings” and “life span” to help us experience a deep sense of interbeing with the entire cosmos.

Saturday, August 16, Reforesting Your Mind.  Felipe Vivieros, a member of the Order of Interbeing who is an English Chilean journalist, an activist and organizer focused on Indigenous rights, cultural narratives and building a post capitalism society will offer a live dharma talk with a Q &A session by Zoom.

Sunday, September 21, Mindful Eating, A Relational Practice.  Dr. Lenna Liu, a Seattle pediatrician who developed a pioneering parent led program on mindful eating at Odessa Brown clinic will offer a dharma talk and practices to deepen nourishment of our bodies and minds.

Saturday, October 18, Mindfulness of the Body facilitated by Vera Garibaldi and Genevieve Hicks

Sunday, November 16, Generosity and Sharing Lessons from Earth and our Indigenous Cultures with dharma teaching offering by Sharyne Shui Thornton.

Saturday, December 20, Solstice, Moving from Darkness into Light.

Activities offered will include sitting and walking meditation, a dharma talk and discussion, a mindful noon meal, songs and deep relaxation or gentle movement activities, a mindfulness practice related to the theme, and recitation of the 5 Mindfulness Trainings.  If you come to the in-person DOM, bring a vegan food item to share.

Roles that help make a DOM: Contact us at ­­­ dom@mindfulnesspugetsound.org if you would like to help with any of the following for DOMs in 2025:

  • Facilitate a DOM, Coordinate practice activities such as facilitating the formal meal, deep relaxation or other gentle movement activities, songs and other mindfulness practices or activities.
  • Set up Zendo, and make coffee and Tea: Arrive at 8 am
  • Greeter to welcome everyone: Arrive at 8 am
  • Set up the lunch offerings around 12:30pm
  • Kitchen Clean Up & post Lunch work activities at 1:30 pm
  • End of Day Clean Up at 4 pm

Parking is available in the diagonal slots on 25th Ave. at the Light House for the Blind on the corner of Plum and 25th street.

Dana: There is no fee to attend the Day of Mindfulness, but you are welcome to offer a donation in the range of $10-20 to help cover the costs of supplies and facility.  Dana can be made in person at the DOM or on the MCPS website: https://mindfulnesspugetsound.org/dana/

Other Considerations: Please bring rain gear (gore tex, umbrella) for walking outdoors in the rain if there is rain in the forecast and please bring a sun hat, sunscreen and sunglasses if sunshine is in the forecast.  Wearing of face masks is highly recommended and some are available on site.  Please don’t attend in person if you have symptoms of an illness that could be contagious. Your Ideas and Suggestions for DOM themes, speakers, videos for dharma talks or guided meditations and practice activities are welcomed by the Day of Mindfulness Committee and please send them by email to that address above.  We are also interested in having a family program so let us know if you have children or youth who would like to attend and their ages. 

The Role of the DOM Committee: Our role is to facilitate monthly Days of Mindfulness for MCPS that are inclusive of all our members and support them with teachings, practices, rest, and community connection that meet their needs and give them more agency to effect positive change in their lives and the world.
