New sitting group on Queen Anne Hill: Sundays 6:30 to 8:00 pm at Red Square Yoga, 1911 10th Avenue West (near Gilman)
We are a diverse group of people who practice meditation in the tradition of mindfulness taught by Thich Nhat Hanh, a Vietnamese Buddhist monk, poet and peace activist. Our practice encourages the importance and joy of bringing a mindful awareness into all aspects of our lives.
We are very blessed to have a teacher, Eileen Kiera, living here in northwest Washington. Eileen has practiced in the Buddhist tradition for over thirty years, and was given transmission to teach by Thich Nhat Hanh in 1990. Eileen offers classes and retreats through MCPS in the spring and the fall, and occasionally joins us for days of mindfulness. She is also the guiding teacher for sanghas in Idaho and Montana.
Thich Nhat Hanh predicts that the next living Buddha will be a sangha (or spiritual community). Our practice reflects a special emphasis on community-building. We welcome people of all backgrounds (spiritual, ethnic, sexual orientation, etc.) to practice with us.
what we do...
Our regular practice includes weekly practice on Monday nights, a monthly day of mindfulness, and retreats in the winter and summer.
Anyone is welcome to participate in sangha activities. People who are committed to a regular meditation practice, want to participate in the development of the sangha and make a monthly financial contribution, can become regular members of MCPS. We are always happy to welcome new members to our community. Each one of us brings our unique practice and life experiences to the community, and our diversity of interests and perspectives enriches us. For more information about membership, look for a membership application on the bulletin board at the center.
